Fri Night: Image Text Ithaca: Earl Gravy, Anna Moschovakis, Nicholas Muellner & Suzanna Zak

To celebrate the west coast launch of their first three books at the LA Art Book Fair, Image Text Ithaca will present a reading by ITI fellows and faculty: Earl Gravy (Emma Kemp and Daniel Wroe), Anna Moschovakis, Nicholas Muellner and Suzanna Zak.

Image Text Ithaca brings together an independent press, an MFA program and ongoing workshops and symposia at the intersection of writing and photography. ITI seeks to build an international community of writers, photographers, editors and publishers. Through experimentation, adventure and creative exchange, participants develop ideas, relations, tactics and traditions in order to articulate a field in the most robust sense.

An L.A based collaboration between artists Emma Kemp and Daniel Wroe, Earl Gravy combines research methodologies within a contemporary visual arts practice, presenting projects as exhibitions, lectures, and publications. Current research topics include: “The Home of Truth”: a year long investigation into a proto-New Age, female-led apocalyptic commune in the desert of Southeast Utah, and "Alcor", a study in life extension practices and the computational aspect of consciousness.

Anna Moschovakis is a writer, translator, and editor based in the Catskill mountains and in Brooklyn. She is a longstanding member of the publishing collective Ugly Duckling Presse and recently co-founded BUSHEL, a new mixed-use storefront space in Delhi, NY.

Nicholas Muellner is an artist who operates at the intersection of photography and writing. Through books, exhibitions and slide lectures, he investigates the limits of photography as a documentary pursuit and as an interface to literary, political and personal narratives. Books include The Photograph Commands Indifference (A-Jump Books, 2009), and The Amnesia Pavilions (A-Jump Books, 2011). Readings include MoMa PS1, the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Photography and his writings on photography have been published by MACK, Afterimage, Art Journal, Routledge and Aperture. He is Co-Director of Image Text Ithaca.

Suzanna Zak is a Los Angeles based artist. A frequent traveler, her work depicts the malleability of place and space by using a mixture of photography, sculpture, and writing. Some recent projects include Freedom Isa Bonfire, an installation at Good Press Gallery in Glasgow that coincided with a bonfire at Dockweiler Beach in California, and Sun+Soil / Moon+Dirt, a book of concrete poetry published by Shelter Press. She also runs the art book press Rock Bottom.
